De Anza College's Emergency Preparedness Plan

In 2002, De Anza College with the assistance of Joe Horton, Emergency Management Consultants, adopted a comprehensive Emergency Operations Plan (EOP). The plan was written specifically for the College and meets both the California and Federal Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD-5) and conforms to the National Incident Management System (NIMS), the Standardized Emergency Management System (SEMS) and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) guidelines.

Each year our Emergency Management Consultant conducts trainings and drills with the College's EOC staff using various scenarios. Many of the drills are conducted in coordination with the City of Cupertino Emergency Preparedness Department. The scenarios include simulated damage and injury reports from the campus, law enforcement, and fire/rescue entities. To date the campus has completed sixteen emergency preparedness trainings.

In March 2005 the College also held an Emergency Home Preparedness workshop presented by Marsha Hovey, the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for the City of Cupertino.

In Fall 2007 the College updated the campus emergency procedures document and placed one in every classroom and department.

In Spring 2008 the updated building monitor emergency bags were distributed to building monitors across campus.

 

Be Prepared For Emergency Situations

A major emergency can happen at any time.

Each individual should plan ahead. During the first few hours or days following a major emergency, essential services may not be available.

People must be ready to act on their own. There are a number of organizations that provide information online or by telephone about preparing for a major emergency.
